Stop Press

Grant funding has been received and the play equipment ordered for Sparrows Green Recreation Ground. The play site will need to be closed whilst the area is prepared and the new equipment installed but we will try to keep the closure to a minimum.
Pedestrian Crossing
Over 30 people attended the public consultation held by East Sussex County Council on the proposal to install a pedestrian crossing in the High Street. Helen Pace, Project Manager, Road Safety Engineering at the County Council, presented the proposal and explained why the location between Columbine Cleaners and Wealden Wholefoods had been selected as the most appropriate.
Questions from the floor were dominated by concerns about the loss of parking. The consultation continues until 31st December 2009 - anyone wishing to comment should complete a questionnaire and return it to the freepost address. Questionnaires are available at Carillon Cottage, the Post Office and other key locations in the village or can be downloaded here |
Traffic Speed
One area that continues to be brought to the attention of the council is the problem with traffic speeding through the village. Station Hill has been highlighted as a location where traffic speed is an issue - this makes it difficult for people walking along the narrow pavement to the station and for those trying to cross the road. East Sussex County Council will not consider any additional traffic calming measures as the area has an excellent safety record. The parish council has been working with PCSO Tamara Bennett and Station Hill has now been authorised as a site for Police speed monitoring - if the results indicate an unacceptable level of speeding, the parish council will again refer the issue to the county council for traffic calming.
Other sites authorised for Police speed monitoring are:
- Lower High Street
- Cousley Wood Road
Wealden Walks
Wadhurst has been asked to launch Wealden District Council's new initiative promoting walking. Councillors and members of Wadhurst Footpaths Society are planning a mass walk across our splendid countryside. Watch out for more information in the spring! |
